Guys, there's something I'm a bit concerned about. Recently (as in, ten minutes ago), I found out that there is this website called Tumgir that has all of my Tumblr posts and blog on it. I don't think it's an extension of or owned by Tumblr. Apparently there's also another one called Tumbral that does the same thing?

I'm not sure why my stuff is on there, since I've never visited these websites in my life, but I just wanted to raise this point. I'm concerned that my posts can be found there quite possibly even after I delete them. (To be honest, I don't even want to click on the website since I don't trust it. A lot of the info comes from this post about this same issue, and those who reblogged with the same issue as well. I'll be reblogging this post to share with you as well.)

@staff it would be very helpful if you could also weigh in, just to be sure if this is indeed a Tumblr thing or if these websites are acting on their own?

It's just really strange and I wanted to get it out there for my writeblr friends and other followers in case you've ever shared something and don't want it automatically re-posted to another website.

If I've got something wrong and this is a normal extension of Tumblr, please let me know, but I don't think it is…

Update: Apparently it has worked for a lot of people to turn on the two "Hide this blog" features in your settings, you should be able to prevent any further posts of yours going on any of these websites.

Also, there is a third website called "Tumbex" that is also pretty much the same as Tumgir and Tumbral.

I still don't know how to go about reporting/taking down what's already on there (especially since some Tumblr users have reported that their contact emails are apparently fake), but I'm trying to figure it out and would appreciate all the help I can get. If you find something out, please do share!

[[[Also, not to freak my fellow writeblrs out, but I googled some writeblr friends and have found every single one of them already on one of these websites, so please please please check for your username (just googling your username and going to the second/third pages will show you your results on Tumblar/Tumgir/Tumbex) and please do take the necessary precautions to stop it from happening again.]]]

Omg 😱 I just searched mine and it appeared on Tumgir

Holy shit, I'm scared

Hey, can someone please check if I'm on there??

Also, ummm. @ragingfangirl666 I'm not trying to worry you, but when I tried to look up my name your blog came up on Tumgir. I'm not trying to worry you, but I feel like you should know.

Oh fuck-

oh god i thought that was owned by tumblr or something. thats where i end up when i reverse image search anything

also it's easier to just go to tumgir.com/[insert url] or tumbral.com/[url] etc.

turned this on. tumbral didn't have my blog in the first place and tumbex stopped updating but tumgir still updates

Wait r y'all just finding out about the copy sites?

There's loads of them, I don't mind too bad but you can do that if you're concerned

Aren't they there so people from other countries where these websites are banned can still access the content on there too?

yeah, Like this really isnt that scary.

ANYONE can see your posts. Theyre not hacking into shit or looking into your life

Theyre just posting everything on tumblr

Like OFC you wont log in on these sites THATS COMMON SENSE

Like I have made my fair share of deleted posts but unless someone is hiding something they know will get them hate its not a huge issue

Besides they dont give a shit about yalls blogs. Theyre reposting everything

Dont fear-monger this isnt them hacking you. youre fine. These sites are pretty dead anyway, and Im certain they also delete Deleted Posts

This is probably just a bot made to repost tumblr blogs

I do think that as long as you don't have information out there that you don't want people being able to get their hands on without you specifically being in control of how it's distributed, it seems to be okay. But I personally know tumblrs who have shared photos of themselves and other information and unfortunately the fact that it is getting out there, even as an automatic repost, seems to me to be a lack of security and a lack of control over personal information shared on blogs. (Also the fact that apparently these images can be downloaded via these other websites is concerning.)

You make a good point about them deleting posts when you delete them; if that is true (I have no idea tbh and would appreciate any info about this if someone has tried deleting and rechecking), I suppose the threat does minimize slightly. That would honestly be great news, since we can all just go through and remove any posts with identifying or sensitive information or photos or anything else we wouldn't want reposted on there.

And I do second your point about not spreading fear! My main goal wasn't to scare, but rather just to let others know what is happening with the content they're sharing on Tumblr. I personally had no idea about this 24 hours ago. I think it's good that people are becoming aware of this, but I also think it's natural that when a breach like this is made known, people will be a bit worried and scared about the implications, which is also why I have been trying to get as much info as possible about this issue to share (so as not to start a mass panic; if I this post has resulted in a mass panic despite my efforts, I really do apologise, that was not my intention!).

Yeah, I don't think this is us being hacked, either. I think it's exactly as you say - a bot that automatically reposts. I just hope that it's fully responsive to actions made by the tumblrs it is reposting (I.e. deleting posts that have been deleted and etc.)

You made a lot of great points here and thanks for taking the time to do so!
